The Waste Management Phoenix Open is a nationally televised golf tournament, a part of the PGA Tour held at the Tournament Players Club (TPC) of Scottsdale, Arizona around the last weekend in January. The tournament was originally the Arizona Open, but was known for most of its history as the Phoenix Open until the investment bank, Friedman Billings Ramsey, became the title sponsor in October 2003.
The Waste Management Phoenix Open is the best attended golf tournament in the world every year. In 2010 more than 470,000 people visited the event. Because of the layout of the course and the parking, this event never sells out. Everyone who wants to attend can go. Why is it so popular? Could it be because of the location in beautiful Scottsdale, Arizona? Could it be because the weather is usually wonderful and sunny? Could it be because the best golfers in the world come to play in this prestigious event? The answers are yes, yes, and yes.
